Martin Schmalzried holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and has over fifteen years of experience working at the intersection of financial policy, digital innovation, and public-interest advocacy.

As Senior Policy and Advocacy Manager at COFACE-Families Europe, he represented civil society and consumer interests in major EU financial policy forums, including the European Banking Authority’s Banking Stakeholder Group, the European Commission’s Financial Services Users Group, and EIOPA’s Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group.
His work has focused on financial inclusion, consumer protection, digital finance, crypto-assets, blockchain, and the societal implications of financial regulation.

More broadly, Martin reflects on macroeconomics and monetary policy through an interdisciplinary lens, exploring how debt-based monetary systems, blockchain infrastructures, complementary currencies, and alternative models of monetary creation might contribute to a more resilient and adaptive economic system.
